Joakim Stampe, Sweden

Joakim Stampe was born in 1959 and lives and works in Gothenburg.

The Swedish performance artist has realised over three hundred actions in more than 30 countries worldwide. In his work he has combined the ephemeral with the art object, painting with performance art, and materials such as water, fire, even air and stone. Inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s theories on the imagination of matter and its poetry, Stampe creates works that constantly surprise through their imagination and artistic expression. He is the co-founder of the international performance art festival Live Action.
